Hello Folks,
Tonight is the night for Open Spin, the night when the JP Hops House turns in to the LP Hops House. I can't believe we've gone through so many great sides since we've started. Even if the crowd is sometimes thin, it's a great time had by all. Rather than put up the list of songs we've played since November, I've decided to share some highlights from some of the past spins in a "Top Ten" style list.
#10: Randy S plays "Introducing The Beatles" on the Vee Jay label. *drool*
#9: Dodd remarks how much the "101 Strings" LP sounds like "Victory at Sea". Chris then pulls "Victory at Sea" out of his magic box of vinyl.
#8: Rusty gives away boxes of LPs and forces Mike to go home with boxes of show tunes.
#7: Sweet Honey in the Rock. Nuff said, Google it.
#6: Yes has still been played more than any other artist.
#5: Divine Pizza delivers late.
#4: Even local artists get their albums played! Shake Russell, Joe LoCascio, Z-ROCKS, Rancho BeeBop.
#3: We get to hear more styles, artists and decades of music than an iPod stuck on shuffle.
#2: Jennifer get's a signed LP for her first Open Spin! Pretty cool even if it was just signed by all of the regulars there that night.
#1: Vinyl still sounds better than CD in the opinion of 90% of the attendees. The other 10% drank too much Brewhouse Brown and declared that we need an 8-Track night.
So now that you've had a look into a night of Open Spin, how can you stay away?!? Hope to see ya'll tonight at 8:00!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Lot's of Spins on One Massive List
With the one hour I have before I have to get back to work, I'm finally going to post the giant playlist from the past Open Spins. It's neat to go back and see all of the great music that has been played over the past weeks. It's also amazing to see so many new folk out at The Hops House supporting this music night.

Open Spin 9/28/09

Open Spin #2 took place as storm clouds raged, lightning struck and as Jim and Pam transformed the Hops House into a Halloween Hall of Horror. (Lots of H's). With the success of the previous Monday under our belts, we now were faced with the impossible task of figuring out what to play this time. Rusty brought a crate full of show tunes.... yeah, that's all I have on that one. So here is the list and a pic from the night.
1. Bob Y. - Ry Cooder - "Paradise and Lunch" - Side 1
2. Mike T. - Big Star - "#1 Record" - Side 1
3. Rusty W. - The Blasters - "Blasters" - Side 1
4. Dodd E. - Limelighters - "Our Men in S.F." - Side 1
5. Jim F. - Electromagnets - "Electromagnets" - Side 1
6. Bob Y. - David Lindley - "El Rayo-X" - Side 1
7. Mike T. - Eli Paperboy Reed - "Roll With You" Side 1
8. Bob Y. - Ry Cooder - "Paradise and Lunch" - Side 2

Open Spin 9/21/09
Monday Sept, 21st 2009 was the first JP Hops House "Open Spin" night and it couldn't have turned out better! There was a great crowd and the music was amazing. The whole concept of the "Open Spin" came from a conversation between Jim, Dodd and myself over a few nights. It started as a discussion about the best album sides, not song or full albums, but the individual sides. Over the next few days and weeks more folks started to put in their votes for best side. The idea was simple: One night a week. One Side Per Person. No Stops. We set a date, made some posters and dug in the closet for all of our own personal favorites.
Thank you to everyone who brought their LPs. It was a great first night and I'm looking forward to next Monday night @ 8:00. There are 12 slots a night. The JP Hops House is located at 2317 South Highway 6 in Houston, Texas - one block north of Westheimer on Highway 6. Here's the list from 9/21/09:
